Welcome to the Politis Research Lab
at the University of Manchester

Our Mission

The overarching mission of the Politis Lab is to provide the tools and improve our fundamental knowledge for better understanding biological processes underpinning human health and disease.

Research in the Lab focuses on the development and application of structural MS techniques to interrogate the structural dynamics, and function of challenging membrane proteins, that are difficult to study by traditional tools. Membrane proteins constitute the main targets of the majority of known drugs. However, structural knowledge of these important biomolecules is frustrated by the lack of tools that can accurately monitor their movements within the native environment where they live and operate. Politis lab aims at addressing these challenges by developing the HDX-MS technology to interrogate membrane proteins and their complexes in physiological conditions.
